Boaters and anglers heading to Stonewall Jackson Lake this fall should check weather forecasts, water levels and dam release schedules before leaving, according to a safety reminder from USACE Stonewall Jackson Lake.

The lake’s “Know Before You Go” announcement warns that conditions can change rapidly. Its accompanying checklist identifies three areas to review before an outing.

Weather and water conditions

Check the local forecast, wind speed and direction, and air and water temperatures. Review water levels, river flow and current, and dam release schedules before launching a boat or casting a line.

Equipment and planning

Wear a life jacket, file a float plan and carry emergency gear, the checklist advises.

This is general advice for fall outings. For current lake readings and release schedules, check the operator’s latest reports.
