Stonewall Jackson Lake is tying No-Shave November to a water-safety reminder: take a few seconds to put on a life jacket.

In its November 5 announcement, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake staff said 88% of public recreation fatalities at USACE-managed lakes and river projects were male, and 89% were not wearing a life jacket. The post did not specify the period covered by those figures; they describe USACE-managed recreation sites, rather than Stonewall Jackson Lake alone.

The campaign asks people growing a beard this month to make wearing a life jacket part of their routine on the water. Its message is simple: “Wear your life jacket, make it home.”
