Lewis County residents following West Virginia’s electricity policy have an upcoming opportunity to take part in a state rulemaking proceeding. The Public Service Commission has announced a September 28 public-comment hearing at 9:30 a.m. on proposed rules for electricity-generating capacity.
The hearing is in Charleston, not Lewis County: the Howard M. Cunningham Hearing Room at 201 Brooks Street. The PSC’s September 8 release directs prospective participants to notify the commission by September 18. Additional comments, testimony or written materials intended for presentation at the hearing may be submitted by September 23.
What the proceeding addresses
The proposal concerns implementation of House Bill 2014, the Power Generation and Consumption Act passed in 2025. The PSC describes duties involving the regional PJM capacity market, how generating units are dispatched, and the maintenance and fuel supplies needed for generation availability. The commission is preparing proposed rules for legislative approval; this hearing is part of that process.
For local readers, the relevant opportunity is participation in statewide electricity policy. This notice does not announce a customer rate increase, a new power plant in Lewis County or approval of a transmission-line route. It should not be confused with separate local transmission-project discussions.
Before making plans
Use case 26-0633-E-GI in the PSC website’s Case Information section to review the proceeding and its filing instructions before the deadlines. The earlier general written-comment period described in the release ended August 10; that old deadline should not be substituted for the September hearing-participation requirements.
The release does not supply a remote-attendance option or an ending time. Residents should check the case record for arrangements or later changes rather than assume online participation is available.
Read the PSC’s dated September 8 announcement and consult the commission’s official website for Case Information.
