Weston’s September 3 flood-recovery meeting brought a warning that the work extends beyond damage visible immediately after the July 21 flood.

According to reporting by Noah Jeffries for the Weston Democrat, City Manager Joe Solberg said additional infrastructure problems were still being identified weeks after the disaster. Public Works Director Mike Starett described sediment blocking sewer lines and mud in drainage lines. Residents were directed to report city issues at 304-269-6141.

The workload also has grown for building officials. Marty Lewis, the city’s building, code and zoning officer, said the number of building permits issued in August had tripled, the newspaper reported.

City and FEMA representatives encouraged flood-affected residents to get assistance answers from the responsible agencies rather than rely on circulating claims. This report does not establish anyone’s eligibility, a payment amount or a revised application deadline.

The city had invited Lewis County residents to the Thursday evening session at St. Paul Episcopal Church. This article now reports the meeting’s outcome instead of presenting it as upcoming; its original publication date is preserved.
