Lewis County's temporary flood-debris site will begin accepting authorized material hauled from Upshur County under a new agreement between the two county commissions, according to WDTV.
The Upshur County Commission decided during an emergency telephone meeting Tuesday morning to enter the arrangement with Lewis County. It allows disaster-generated debris collected in Upshur County to be deposited at the Lewis County Temporary Debris Staging and Reduction Site while cleanup from the July flooding continues.
The agreement does not open the Lewis County site to public drop-offs. Upshur officials said only National Guard crews may enter the site to deliver authorized debris. Residents with material that has not been collected should follow their city or county's current pickup process rather than drive debris to Lewis County.
For Lewis County residents, the change means Guard vehicles may continue bringing flood waste to the local staging operation from both counties. WDTV did not report any change to Lewis County's own curbside collection instructions or public access rules.
The arrangement is another example of shared recovery work after the same July storm damaged communities in both counties. Upshur commissioners thanked Lewis County for making the site available and for cooperating with the continuing cleanup.
The Upshur County Commission's next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Upshur County Courthouse Annex, where additional operational details could be discussed. WDTV's September 1 report contains the source account of the emergency meeting.
