Necco Foster Care’s Fairmont team is asking Lewis County residents to consider fostering, saying a shortage of available families is forcing the organization to turn down placements for children coming into care.
In a November 4 announcement, Necco identified a need for foster homes in Lewis, Marion, Harrison, Preston, Doddridge, Taylor and Monongalia counties. The team said it does not have enough homes to meet the needs of children referred to it.
Who the team is asking to help
Necco asked current foster parents to consider whether they could welcome another child or a sibling group. It also encouraged people who have thought about becoming foster parents to contact the team and learn more.
The announcement thanked existing foster families for the care they already provide while asking the wider community to help address the shortage.
Support and inquiries
Necco said its team provides ongoing support and training, assistance available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and a dedicated team to work alongside foster families.
Residents who want to help or ask about fostering can call (681) 404-3777, inquire online at Necco.org or send a message to Necco Foster Care’s Fairmont team. The announcement did not spell out application requirements or the approval process; prospective foster parents can ask the team for those details.
Nicci Hughes Hawkins shared Necco’s announcement in the Lewis County Bulletin Board group later on November 4.
