Jane Lew Fire Department is looking for recruits ages 16–30 who want to learn firefighting and rescue skills. In its Nov. 4 recruitment announcement, the department said no experience is required and it will pay for accredited training and provide firefighting and rescue gear.
Training and responsibilities
The department described opportunities to learn how to fight fires, remove a vehicle roof during rescue work, use rescue techniques and operate equipment. It emphasized that recruits need to bring commitment and be prepared for training, late nights, unexpected calls and the responsibilities of emergency response.
The department said it handles more than 500 emergency incidents each year and has an 85-year tradition of service. It also said firefighters who started in Jane Lew have gone on to professional fire service careers.
How to get involved
Interested residents can message the department’s Facebook page, email [email protected] or visit on-duty staff Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 52 Hackers Creek Road in Jane Lew.
