The flood relief distribution center at Market Place Mall in Weston will end walk-in service after Oct. 2, according to a Lewis County Family Resource Network update. Through Oct. 2, the center is open Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment. After Oct. 2, it will serve community members and recovery groups by appointment only.
The center is at 284 Market Place Mall, in the former Kroger building to the right of Dollar Tree. FEMA representatives are available there Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until further notice to help people register, check a registration’s status and ask questions. The network says this location is in addition to FEMA’s primary Disaster Recovery Center.
During walk-in hours, basic necessities, food, hygiene items and cleaning products are available to anyone who comes in. A separate supply area is for people affected by the flood who have applied to FEMA. Families are asked for their FEMA application number at check-in; FEMA staff can help them find it. An application number does not mean FEMA has approved the application, and approval is not required for access to that supply area. The center cannot answer questions about current inventory or reserve items beyond the end of the business day.
Flood recovery case management is continuing as Lewis County organizes a long-term recovery group. Case managers help families connect with resources, develop recovery plans and coordinate assistance. People seeking flood-related help, including housing resources, can complete the “I Need Help” form at tinyurl.com/LewisFloodHelp. The earlier housing survey closed Aug. 31. To follow up on an existing request or ask about housing needs, leave a message at 304-886-5782. Relief groups can use that number to request work tickets or ask about current ones. The number and form are for recovery assistance, not emergencies; call 911 for an immediate crisis or emergency. The network also lists a flood relief resource guide at canva.link/j0zodcie6f7lhwa.
As of Sept. 20, the network’s requested donations included Shockwave mold treatment, pump-top yard sprayers, pest traps, plywood, drywall, insulation, shingles of higher quality than three-tab, Advantech subflooring, 2-by-4-by-8 and 2-by-6-by-8 lumber, and other construction materials. Donors of building materials should contact the network to arrange delivery. It asks people not to donate clothing, perishables, used items or medications. The network says its Family Resource Network and food pantry will continue normal hours with limited staff.
