A countywide business-recovery snapshot compiled by Lewis County Commissioner Agnes Quinn Queen counted 131 businesses and community facilities affected by the July 21 flood. As of 1:20 a.m. August 23, 61 had fully reopened, while 70 remained closed or were operating in an altered form. Two businesses—Performance Chevrolet and Smoker Friendly—were listed as permanently closed.
The remaining impact is broader than locked storefronts. Several organizations are operating remotely, from temporary locations, or with reduced services. KFC has since reopened its drive-thru while its dining room remains under repair. The Lewis County Board of Education is working from the second floor of its building, DHHR has a satellite office at the Disaster Recovery Center at 37 Elizabeth Drive, and the Senior Center continues remote work with meal delivery available.
The August 23 list projected one- to two-month reopening windows for downtown Dollar General and Regional Eye Associates, two to three months for Domino’s, and five to six months for Family Dollar. Long John Silver’s was listed as awaiting a total rebuild, while St. Patrick’s Preschool was undergoing reconstruction. Those projections may change as repairs, inspections, and insurance work continue.
The complete 131-entry snapshot is preserved in the portal’s local Facebook-source archive so later corrections and reopening updates can be made without rescraping Facebook. Queen asked owners to report missing businesses or status changes as recovery continues.
