Lewis County's 2026 fall sports season carries meaning beyond scores and standings.
In an August 19 column, sports editor Dusty Metzgar described a community weary of a wet, humid summer and the larger disruption caused by flooding. Practices, opening nights and weekly competitions now offer students and families something familiar to organize around.
The season cannot erase recovery work or damaged facilities, but it can restore parts of ordinary community life: teammates working toward common goals, families meeting in the stands and students being recognized for progress. That makes every healthy start and completed contest worth noticing this year.
