The Arts Council of Weston is inviting children, teenagers and adults to use poetry to preserve their experiences of the July 2026 Lewis County flood.
The Preserving Family History program will be held Saturday, September 19, at Central WV HEART House, 266 Main Avenue in Weston. Three one-hour sessions divide the program by age:
- Ages 9–11: 1–2 p.m.
- Ages 12–18: 2:30–3:30 p.m.
- Adults: 4–5 p.m.
The organizer says the workshops are designed to help residents reflect on the flood, put their experiences into words and preserve family and community memories. Parents are encouraged to participate with children younger than 12.
A newly captured Arts Council of Weston notice lists an open mic and evening reading at 7 p.m. Saturday in HeartHouse’s performance lounge. It invites writers to share flood-related poetry or prose and readers to attend. The selected post does not display its original Facebook publication time; readers can use the original notice for the source record.
The accessible organizer announcement does not state whether advance registration is required, whether there is a fee, how many participants each session can hold or whether writers should bring materials. Families who need those details should confirm them with the Arts Council before traveling.
The complete organizer listing is available through the Arts Council of Weston's Facebook event.
