Registration is open for Weston’s annual Christmas parade, which will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, in historic downtown Weston. The City of Weston announced the details Oct. 13 and invited businesses, organizations, schools, churches and community groups to participate.
This year’s theme is “Candy Cane Lane.” Floats will be judged on how well they reflect the theme, and winners will be contacted after the parade.
How to register
Completed applications are due by 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24. Participants may submit them in person at the Weston Municipal Building, 102 W. Second Street, or email them to [email protected].
The application asks for organization and contact information, the type and description of the entry, its approximate length in feet and the number of participants. It also requires a contact person’s signature agreeing to the city’s guidelines and liability waiver.
Lineup and route
Lineup begins at 4 p.m. at Robert L. Bland Middle School. Floats must enter the school parking lot through the 3rd Street entrance near H&M Motors. Only parade vehicles are permitted in the staging area.
The city asks participants to dress warmly because they may wait 90 minutes or longer before the parade begins. Drivers must maintain at least two car lengths between parade vehicles and follow all safety regulations.
Participants must continue at least to the corner of First Street and Center Avenue so Criss Manor residents can enjoy the parade.
Quiet zone and entry guidelines
A designated quiet zone will run along 4th Street for spectators who prefer a sensory-friendly experience. Participants are asked to keep noise levels low until reaching Main Avenue. Emergency vehicles are asked to use lights only, with no sirens.
All entries must reflect the holiday spirit. The city encourages floats to follow the Candy Cane Lane theme and include festive lighting. Political campaigning and offensive language, images, music or gestures are prohibited. Printed materials must be submitted with the parade application for approval.
Only one Santa Claus is permitted in the parade; Santa will ride with the Weston Volunteer Fire Department. Participants must be respectful of spectators and fellow participants.
