The West Virginia State Livestock Roundup returned to WVU Jackson''s Mill for its 96th year, bringing 4-H and FFA participants, farmers and 206 feeder calves to the Lewis County campus, according to a Sept. 18 report by the Weston Democrat.
The report describes a weekend schedule at the roundup: heifers were shown Friday, Sept. 18; steers were scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19; and the calves were to be sold Sunday, Sept. 20. The report does not publish start times, admission information or a separate public-attendance policy.
Bruce Loyd, a WVU Extension agent for Lewis County and roundup board member, told the Weston Democrat that the event combines animal showing and a sale. The roundup also welcomed 4-H youth and Future Farmers of America students, who use the experience to learn about animal care, preparation and responsibility.
Robert L. Bland Middle School students are using the Jackson''s Mill campus temporarily after the July flooding. Loyd said the roundup did not conflict with school activities.
Readers who plan to attend should check the Weston Democrat report or contact the event organizer for current times, access and sale details.
