The Vandalia CEOS Club documented both continuity and recovery in its August community update.
Members held their annual picnic and also worked to clean their community building after July's flooding. The combination matters: volunteer groups need usable shared space to organize programs, while familiar gatherings help restore routine after a disaster.
The club's work is one of many small, locally led cleanup efforts that collectively reopen the places Lewis County residents depend on.
