A fund serving Lewis and Upshur flood survivors is receiving a $20,000 contribution from Valley Link Transmission, according to the company’s September 8 announcement. The money goes through Tygart Valley United Way and is part of a $35,000 donation divided between two regional nonprofits.
The United Way contribution supports the Lewis Upshur Flood Assistance Fund. Tygart Valley United Way’s current fund page says its flood-assistance application has reached capacity and is closed. The page’s metadata shows it was last modified September 3, but it does not say when capacity was reached, offer a reopening date or provide a later county-by-county application status. Residents should not treat the donation announcement as an open application notice.
A separate $15,000 goes to Upshur Parish House, which provides emergency food, housing, utility and transportation assistance to Upshur County residents. That second allocation should not be read as a new Lewis County eligibility announcement.
The recipient organizations will decide how to allocate the money. Valley Link’s release does not establish an individual household payment, application deadline or new eligibility policy. Its examples of what the donation might purchase are estimates, not a count of people already helped.
Recovery contribution and transmission proposal are separate issues
Valley Link is developing the proposed Valley North transmission project. WDTV reports that the Lewis County Commission, Weston City Council and Upshur County Commission have voted to oppose it over concerns including property rights and visual impacts. The donation announcement does not establish a change in those positions.
The developer says a final route has not been selected. Its current project page anticipates another round of open houses in November and identification of a preferred route in early 2027. No specific November meeting dates or locations are listed yet.
Residents can review the dated donation release, the United Way fund-status page and the project page. Project feedback can be sent to [email protected] or left by voicemail at 304-207-0120; those are project-comment contacts, not flood-benefit application lines.
