A locally written song and video are giving Lewis County residents a new way to reflect on the July 21 flood and the work that has followed.
Andrew McDonald published “Three Steps Forward,” a three-minute video built around scenes of Weston's flood aftermath about a month after the disaster. In his accompanying note, McDonald said he wanted to show what remains after the cameras leave: residents and businesses continuing to clean, reopen, repair and rebuild.
The video does not portray recovery as finished. McDonald points to visible progress—less mud and debris and more businesses reopening—while emphasizing that many people are still facing serious challenges. He also credits local organizations, agencies, volunteers and out-of-state helpers who came to Lewis County during the response.
Agnes Quinn Queen shared the work Saturday morning in the commissioner-run Lewis County, WV Announcements group, calling it a locally created song and video that captured the experience of the community. The share also appeared in The WWN's newest-post feed through another resident, giving the project wider local circulation.
The video's central message is that recovery continues through mutual help: Weston is still rebuilding, but the community is moving forward together. Residents can view the original video and creator's statement on Facebook. No video frame or Facebook image has been copied to the portal because reuse permission was not established.
