The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Stonewall Jackson Lake operator reported a 7:30 a.m. elevation of 1,072.96 feet Saturday, September 19, or 0.46 feet above the summer pool elevation.
The operator said gates 1 and 2 were open 0.75 feet, with an outflow of 200 cubic feet per second and a river-gauge height of 9.07 feet. Outflow water temperature was 73 degrees, the lake surface temperature was 78 degrees and the air temperature was 64 degrees.
The report described heavy fog and 0.11 inches of precipitation during the preceding 24 hours. Lake and tailwater conditions were described as stained.
The operator warned boaters to beware of floating debris and directed questions about boat-launching ramps to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. These are the operator’s recorded conditions for that observation; they do not by themselves establish a general safety rating, closure or access change. Check current operator and WVDNR information before traveling.
