Robert L. Bland Middle School Athletics said football practices are expected to resume Monday, Oct. 12, following a skin infection outbreak within the team.

In an Oct. 8 announcement to football parents and guardians, the school said RLBMS and the Lewis County Board of Education began working with state and local health departments and the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission on Tuesday, Oct. 6, to address the infection and prevent further spread.

The school said those groups have worked together daily to determine when the infection began, identify affected athletes and follow recommended precautions. They jointly decided to cancel practices, a football game and the team’s participation in the Homecoming Parade based on guidance from health officials and the WVSSAC.

According to the announcement, the school is following the guidelines and precautions required for the outbreak, and practices are expected to resume as normal Oct. 12.
