Dr. Randy Darnell of Glenville State University is scheduled to present “Faith and Freedom in the Civil War Era” during Civil War History Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Central WV Genealogy & History Library in Horner.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 45 Abbott's Run Rd. It is free and open to the public. Andrea Moneypenny Clem's announcement did not give a separate time for Darnell's presentation.

According to the announcement, Darnell will examine religious arguments used both to defend and condemn slavery, and the ways enslaved Americans drew hope from Christianity. His presentation will also cover faith's role in resistance and abolition, including the lives of Sojourner Truth, Nat Turner and John Brown, and religious revivals in Union and Confederate armies.

The announcement names the Rotary Club of Weston, WV and Village Caregiving: Clarksburg, WV as sponsors. The post's original publication time was not displayed; the announcement was captured at 12:44 a.m. Eastern on Sept. 30.
