Lewis County is remembering Ramon Howard Fitts of Weston, an Army veteran and retired college maintenance leader who died Monday, August 31, at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 91.
Fitts was born August 11, 1935, in Cortland, New York. He served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1958, according to the family's notice through Davis Funeral Home.
His working life included helping start the PTL Club in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and serving as a paint foreman on the Heritage USA project. After moving to West Virginia, he became head of maintenance at Glenville State College and remained there until retirement.
Family members remember Fitts as outgoing, generous and quick to help others. They say he enjoyed painting, yard work, time outdoors and yard sales, and was known for his humor and collection of funny T-shirts.
Fitts and his wife, Carolyn McCoy Fitts, were married for 26 years. His official notice lists family members in Lewis County and beyond who survive him, along with relatives who died before him.
Family and friends will gather for a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26, at Heater Cemetery, 2488 County Route 1/2 in Orlando. The United States Army and a local honor guard will provide full military honors.
Condolences and complete family information are available through Davis Funeral Home's official notice.
