The National Weather Service warned drivers early Saturday, Sept. 26, that fog across parts of the region could make it difficult to see the road ahead. Dense fog is expected in some areas, with visibility falling below half a mile.
In its 4:10 a.m. statement, NWS Charleston said clear, calm conditions had allowed fog to develop. Drivers should be ready for sudden changes in visibility, leave more distance between vehicles, use low beam headlights and allow extra travel time. The agency cautioned against assuming the road ahead is unobstructed.
The statement was included among the National Weather Service alerts for Lewis County.
