The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a flood watch that includes Lewis County through 8 a.m. EDT Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The watch, issued at 11:35 a.m. Monday, says excessive rainfall could cause flash flooding. Excessive runoff may flood rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying or flood-prone locations.

The weather service says slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may pass through the area Monday evening, Tuesday and Tuesday night. Areas that have already received heavy rain will be most vulnerable to additional flooding.

Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action if flash flood warnings are issued. Read the National Weather Service alert.
