First responders, volunteers and community members who helped during this summer’s flooding in Lewis and Upshur counties were honored before the Lewis County–Buckhannon-Upshur football game on Friday, Oct. 9, according to Senator Ben Queen.

In an Oct. 12 Facebook post, Queen said he attended the recognition and watched people throughout the stadium stop to listen and show their appreciation for those who helped their neighbors.

“For a few moments, the football rivalry didn't matter,” Queen wrote. “It was simply neighbors coming together to recognize neighbors.”

Queen also said families continue to recover and thanked first responders, volunteers and neighbors for their ongoing help.
