The Lewis County Board of Education will meet in special session at noon Thursday, September 3, to consider the formal facility-use agreement that would keep Robert L. Bland Middle School students learning at WVU Jackson's Mill through the end of the school year.
The public meeting is scheduled for the school system's Administration Building at 239 Court Avenue in Weston. The official agenda also provides an online stream.
The Jackson's Mill item calls for the board to consider a Facility Rental and Use Agreement with the West Virginia University Board of Governors. The listed term begins September 8, when approximately 400 middle-school students are expected to start classes at the 4-H campus, and ends May 30, 2027.
This is a formal follow-through to the board's unanimous August 14 action establishing Jackson's Mill as the temporary home for Robert L. Bland Middle School after July floodwater severely damaged the Weston school and athletic complex. State officials later announced $400,000 in contingency funding to support the relocation.
Thursday's agenda does not say the new facility agreement has already been approved. The portal will update this story after the board's action is documented.
The board is also scheduled to consider an agreement with Amergis Healthcare Staffing for supplemental staffing services during the 2026-27 school year. The proposed effective date is August 21. A personnel item is listed as well.
Board members may enter executive session, if necessary, to discuss strategic initiatives involving financial priorities, draft fiscal-year 2027 budgets, potential investment of public funds and commercially sensitive deliberations. Any formal action would have to occur in open session.
Residents can review the official September 3 agenda and use the meeting stream link. People attending in person should arrive at the Administration Building before noon.
Update, September 3 at 9:24 a.m.: The official special-meeting docket adds the formal September 8-May 30 facility term, public access details and the other pending agenda items. No vote outcome was available at publication time.
