Lewis County High School wrestling has named Jeremy McCarty its new head coach and added Brooke Fiber as an assistant coach focused on growing the girls program.

Both coaches are former Lewis County wrestlers returning to the program. Their appointments were announced by an administrator of the official Lewis County Minutemen Wrestling group.

McCarty graduated from LCHS in 2006 and has spent nine years as a Lewis County assistant under Eddie Williams, Steve Rogers and Bobby Mitchell. The program credits him as a four-time Big 10 Conference champion, a two-time conference most outstanding wrestler, a three-time regional champion and a four-time state place winner, with finishes of fourth, third, second and third. This will be his first head-coaching position.

Outside the wrestling room, McCarty earned a master's degree in physician assistant studies from the West Virginia University School of Medicine and works as a certified physician assistant in interventional radiology at United Hospital Center. The program said his goal is to develop athletes' character while carrying forward Lewis County's established wrestling tradition.

Fiber, a 2010 LCHS graduate, began wrestling locally at age nine. She competed with the boys team when separate girls divisions were limited. The program identifies her as the first female Big 10 wrestling champion and the first Lewis County girl to qualify for the boys state tournament, which she reached twice.

Her listed results also include three West Virginia girls state championships, two Pennsylvania girls state titles, a Maryland girls state title, second place at the 2008 United States Girls Wrestling Association nationals and third-place finishes in 2009 and 2010. As an adult, she has continued competing and won three Viper Pit national championships.

Fiber brings four years of youth coaching, including the past three as Gorilla Wrestling Club head coach. This season will be her first coaching at the high-school level. Lewis County says her role is meant to give girls a stronger path to compete, develop and set long-term goals within the program.

Neither announcement included a season calendar or separate tryout information. Athletes and families should watch the official Lewis County Minutemen Wrestling group and Lewis County Schools channels for those operational details.
