Lewis County's elementary and high-school students returned to class August 20, giving the district an on-time start despite the cleanup and transportation work that followed July's flooding.
Assistant Superintendent Tim Payton said the first morning went smoothly, although the district still needed to adjust some bus pickups. He said late cleanup had been completed at other school buildings and encouraged students to listen to teachers and administrators, be kind to one another and enjoy the return to school.
Robert L. Bland Middle School remained the major exception. Its students were scheduled to begin September 8 at WVU Jackson's Mill because the Weston building sustained severe flood damage.
