The Lewis County Board of Education approved five goals for the 2026-27 school year during its regular meeting Monday, according to a report by WV News.
The goals address student assessment growth, monthly financial reporting, longstanding facility problems, budget oversight and continued cooperation among the school community after the July 21 flood.
The board also heard an update on insurance claims for flood damage. WV News reported that claims under review included $91,627.04 for the old Robert L. Bland Middle School wrestling building, $100,254.51 for a USDA freezer building and $295,181.74 for a middle-school field house. Superintendent Carolyn Long said the district was still waiting for federal agencies before it could move forward.
The meeting also included recognition of students who attended summer Governor’s School programs and the Hugh O’Brian Youth Seminar, recognition of JROTC Chief Timothy Miller as a regional instructor of the year, and a proclamation for Why Apply Day on Sept. 18.
