A Flood Warning for central Lewis County ran through 8 a.m. Sunday, September 13, after the National Weather Service in Charleston issued an update at 5:02 a.m. The warning covered central Lewis along with parts of Braxton and Gilmer counties, and named Weston, Stonewall Jackson, Walkersville, Horner and Sand Run among the affected locations.
NWS said at 5 a.m. that Doppler radar showed 1 to 4 inches of rain had fallen Saturday across that warning area and that lingering high water was expected. It reported flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying locations as imminent or occurring, with some roads still closed. The bulletin includes Interstate 79 mile markers 74-100 and Route 33 mile markers 1-6, but does not identify a particular closure on either highway.
Separate northwestern and southern warnings
The Flood Warning for northwestern Lewis County also ran through 8 a.m. In its 5:11 a.m. continuation update, NWS said emergency management reported that 1 to 3 inches of rain fell Saturday across that three-county warning area and that lingering high water remained in some locations. The warning included northwestern Lewis County with parts of Gilmer and Doddridge counties; NWS named Leopold, Alum Bridge and Linn among the locations. The bulletin did not identify specific road closures.
A separate southern Lewis County Flood Warning was scheduled through 8:30 a.m. It included east-central Braxton and northwestern Webster counties and named Falls Mills. Its earlier bulletin reported 3.5 to 6.5 inches of rain across that warning area.
