Lewis County is under a flood watch until 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, as additional heavy rain could cause flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
The watch, issued at 10:46 a.m. Sunday, says creeks and streams across the watch area are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. Slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the region during the afternoon.
Some parts of the broader watch area have already received 2 to 3 inches of rain, the weather service said. Those areas could flood quickly with additional localized heavy rainfall. The alert does not give a rainfall total specifically for Lewis County.
Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action if flash flood warnings are issued.
