Lewis County Commissioner Agnes Quinn Queen is compiling a list of rental homes that may be available to families displaced by the July 21 flood.
Queen's Tuesday evening request covers both short- and long-term rentals anywhere in Lewis County. She said several families are still staying away from their homes or living in houses that have been stripped for repairs while rebuilding continues.
People with an available rental home can respond through Queen's official Facebook post or message her account with their contact information. Contact details that should not be public are better sent privately rather than placed in a public comment.
The announcement begins an availability list; it does not announce a placement program or promise that a property will be matched with a family. It also does not specify rent limits, inspection requirements, financial assistance, a submission deadline or when the compiled list will be released.
Flood survivors who need housing help should continue using the county's established recovery intake rather than waiting for the rental list. Current official guidance directs Lewis County residents to tinyurl.com/LewisFloodHelp or to call 304-886-5782 and leave a message. The rental outreach does not replace FEMA applications or other recovery-assistance requests.
The request is the latest sign that housing remains a recovery need more than six weeks after the flood. The portal's long-term recovery guide lists the current distribution-center schedule, FEMA locations, volunteer channels and rebuilding priorities.
