Lewis County workers and self-employed residents who lost income because of the July 21-22 flooding remained eligible to seek Disaster Unemployment Assistance.

The federal program is intended for disaster-related employment losses that are not covered by ordinary unemployment insurance. An August 18 announcement expanded eligibility to Pleasants and Ritchie counties while confirming that Lewis and Upshur were already included.

Applicants should use WorkForce West Virginia's current instructions and deadlines. Eligibility is determined individually, so residents should not assume that a denial under regular unemployment automatically ends the inquiry.
