Lewis County is remembering Laura Jane “Janie” Pumphrey, formerly of Weston, who died Friday, August 28, at Clarksburg Healthcare. She was 76.

Pumphrey was born in Lewis County on May 28, 1950, and grew up in Weston as the youngest of seven children. Her family's notice recounts that she was born prematurely and spent several months in an incubator. She later attended school in Weston and graduated from Weston High School with the class of 1971.

Family members remember her enjoyment of bingo, puzzles and crochet. They also describe her as someone who knew much of the Weston community from the 1950s and 1960s, shaped in part by time spent at Lovett's Drive-In Theater, where her mother worked.

Pumphrey is survived by a sister and members of her extended family. Her notice also recognizes relatives who died before her and two Weston-area people whose visits and friendship were especially important to her.

Visitation is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, August 31, at Hardman Family Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue in Weston. The funeral service begins there at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mark Evans officiating. Private interment will follow at Finster Chapel Cemetery on Goosepen Road in Lewis County.

Friends may leave condolences and share memories through Hardman Family Funeral Home's published notice.
