Lewis County held Keyser scoreless throughout the second quarter Friday night, but the Golden Tornado pulled away after halftime to win 28-0 at Minuteman Field.
Keyser quarterback Addison Bradford opened the scoring with a 60-yard touchdown run less than two minutes into the September 4 game. The Minutemen defense prevented another first-half score, sending Lewis County to the locker room trailing 7-0.
Lewis County moved toward midfield to start the second half before losing a fumble. Keyser answered with Cole Holland's 15-yard touchdown run, extending the margin to 14-0.
The stadium lights went out immediately after the extra point as a wider Weston-area outage interrupted service to thousands of customers. WV News reports that the field remained dark for a little more than 30 minutes before players completed a short warm-up and play resumed. Its headline counts the full interruption at about 40 minutes. Students and the Marching Minutemen helped keep the crowd engaged during the delay.
Holland intercepted a Lewis County pass shortly after the restart. Keyser then scored on a 47-yard run by Crawford and closed the scoring with Bradford's 10-yard touchdown pass to Benjamin Mele. Camden Larkin made all four extra-point attempts.
Lewis County's Ian Brown intercepted a pass late in the third quarter, but the Minutemen could not convert the turnover into points. Fullback Isaac Pickens led Lewis County's offense with 88 yards on 19 carries. Crawford finished with 118 rushing yards for Keyser, while Holland added 111.
The loss moved Lewis County to 0-2. Keyser improved to 2-0. Lewis County is scheduled to travel to Elkins for its next game.
