The Jane Lew Fire Department's 46th annual Fireman's Arts and Crafts Festival concluded Sunday after a three-day run at the department grounds and Jane Lew Park. The event remained one of Lewis County's largest Labor Day weekend gatherings despite soggy park conditions left by the July flood.
The department reported more than 150 artisans for the final day. Visitors also found festival food, games and activities intended for families. Organizers require merchandise to be handmade or at least substantially made by its seller, keeping the event centered on artisans rather than general resale booths.
What the fundraiser supports
Jane Lew Fire Department Vice President Edsel Smith told WDTV that the festival is the volunteer department's largest and most important fundraiser of the year. Revenue helps pay practical operating costs including station utilities, equipment and fuel.
The benefit extends beyond the station. Smith said returning vendors and visitors also generate business for local restaurants and hotels during the three-day festival.
The show began inside the fire department and grew across the station grounds, a nearby field and the park pavilion as vendor and visitor participation expanded. Admission remained free throughout the weekend.
Flooding had left portions of Jane Lew Park wet before opening day. Organizers placed mulch where it was needed and accommodated vendors without canceling or substantially relocating the event.
The 2026 festival is now over. Readers looking for future fundraisers or next year's dates should follow the Jane Lew Fire Department. Read WDTV's closing-day report.
