Descendants of Civil War veterans are invited to honor their ancestors by speaking their names at a remembrance ceremony Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Central WV Genealogy & History Library in Horner. The ceremony is scheduled for approximately 4:30 p.m. as HCPD’s Civil War History Weekend draws to a close, according to a notice shared by Pam Cronin in Lewis County, WV Announcements.
Remembering family connections
The closing ceremony will give attendees an opportunity to stand and name a Union or Confederate veteran ancestor, remembering that person’s service more than 160 years later. The notice asks participants to bring their ancestor’s name and invites descendants connected to either side of the war.
The invitation specifically includes people from, or with Civil War ancestors connected to, Harrison, Doddridge, Marion, Barbour, Taylor, Randolph, Lewis, Upshur, Braxton, Gilmer, Webster and Ritchie counties. People with connections outside those counties are invited as well.
Where and when to attend
The ceremony will take place at the Central WV Genealogy & History Library, 45 Abbott’s Run Road, Horner. The approximately 4:30 p.m. start is identified as the weekend’s closing ceremony. The notice names the Rotary Club of Weston, WV and Village Caregiving: Clarksburg, WV as sponsors.
