Hitt’s Body Shop in Weston says it achieved I-CAR Gold Class recognition in 2026, a milestone the business highlighted in a Nov. 2 account of its fourth generation of family leadership.
The shop credited Rob Winning with leading the effort and its technicians with completing the required testing. The announcement described the recognition as a team accomplishment as the business works to modernize its operations, strengthen relationships with insurers and invest in employees.
Owner Cortney Hitt Harris took on responsibility for the family business after her father, Tim, died in 2020. According to the shop’s account, she initially balanced ownership with her work as a Department of Justice auditor before leaving that career in 2022 to focus on the shop.
Harris is the fourth generation of the Hitt family, and the first woman, to lead the business. She and her husband, David, have worked with the staff to prepare it for the future while preserving the reputation built by earlier generations.
The company’s history page traces its beginnings to 1946, when James E. “Red” Hitt established a salvage yard and used-parts business in Weston’s Shady Brook area. The business later moved to Deanville, its present location. His son, Jim, added towing, mechanical and body-shop operations; Tim became the third-generation owner after Jim retired in 1992.
The latest announcement looks back on those transitions while describing the family’s current work. It does not announce a new ownership change this week: Cortney’s move to full-time leadership dates to 2022.
Hitt’s Garage & Body Shop is at 441 U.S. Highway 19 North in Weston. The business lists 304-269-2123 for information.
