A new three-day guided Civil War tour will bring small groups through four north-central West Virginia counties, with a full day of stops in Lewis County.
The Clarksburg History Museum is offering the trip September 22-24, October 21-23 and November 4-6. Each session is limited to 13 people and costs $150 per person. The ticket covers transportation and admission to the historic sites; participants pay separately for meals, drinks and personal purchases.
Day three is the Lewis County portion. The official itinerary includes Jackson's Mill, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum and a glassblowing demonstration and tour at Appalachian Glass. Participants will also have time for an early dinner in Weston at their own expense before returning to Clarksburg.
The first two days cover Clarksburg and Harrison County sites, then Philippi, Rich Mountain and Beverly. Stops across the full route include Civil War trenches, battlefields, cemeteries, museums, historic homes, the Stonewall Jackson birthplace and the preserved Beverly home of Jackson's sister, Laura Jackson Arnold.
Guests must report to the Clarksburg History Museum, 445 West Main Street, by 10 a.m. each day. Free parking is available at Jackson Square in downtown Clarksburg. Organizers say the itinerary involves walking at museums, battlefields, historic properties and outdoor sites, so participants should wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather and bring water. Pets are not permitted.
Registration and the remaining capacity for each session are available through the museum's official checkout page. The museum can also be reached at 304-641-4549.
