The National Weather Service’s Charleston office issued a flood watch that includes Lewis County through 8 a.m. EDT Wednesday, Sept. 23. The watch was issued Monday evening at 7:29 p.m. EDT.

The agency says excessive rainfall could cause flash flooding, with rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying or flood-prone locations at risk. Slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the area periodically through Tuesday night. Areas that have already received heavy rain will be more vulnerable to additional flooding.

Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action if flash flood warnings are issued. Read the National Weather Service alert.
