Lewis County residents affected by the July flooding have until October 3, 2026, to apply for FEMA disaster assistance.
The FEMA application is separate from the initial local damage-assessment survey. West Virginia Emergency Management Division Public Information Officer Ally Stout told WDTV that residents who completed the survey still need to submit a FEMA application. Assistance depends on FEMA's review of each case and may address eligible home repairs, essential-item losses, rental assistance or other displacement needs not covered by insurance.
FEMA's current Disaster Recovery Center records, checked September 16, list two open Lewis County locations:
- Lewis County Disaster Recovery Center: 37 Elizabeth Drive in Weston, Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Marketplace community recovery center: 2842 Marketplace in Weston, Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents can also apply at DisasterAssistance.gov or call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362. Recovery-center schedules can change, so check FEMA's Disaster Recovery Center Locator before traveling.
Stout also advised residents preparing to rebuild to contact their local floodplain manager about required permits. Applicants who receive a FEMA letter should read it carefully and follow the stated appeal or document-submission instructions rather than assuming an initial decision is final.
