The National Weather Service in Charleston issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Lewis County and surrounding parts of north-central West Virginia until 8:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Sept. 22.
At 5:30 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain, with 1 to 3 inches reported across the warned area. The warning says flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, affecting small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses and other low-lying or poorly drained locations.
The alert includes portions of Interstate 79 and Route 33. The National Weather Service advises motorists to turn around rather than drive through flooded roads and to be especially cautious after dark. Flooding can be reported to the agency at 800-401-9535 when it is safe to do so.
