Esker Lawrence Davis, a longtime WDTV employee and former chief engineer, died in the early hours of Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 61, according to WDTV 5 News.

Davis was born in Ravena, Ohio, and was the son of Ruth “Turtle” Davis of Weston and the late Lowell “Boss Man” Davis. He is survived by three children, one brother, seven grandchildren and other family members.

The obituary described Davis as someone who regularly helped others, including by repairing machinery, assisting with moves and recording events. He worked at WDTV in media broadcasting, ran the station’s live truck, mentored coworkers and later served as chief engineer. He was also known for photographing Friday night football games and traveling for WVU tournament games.

Davis spent time boating and fishing with his family and was remembered for cooking for others, including popcorn fundraisers, surprise dinners and weekly breakfasts at the station. He donated his body to science.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Jane Lew is serving the family, and online condolences may be expressed through the funeral home’s website.
