Christ In Action remains active in Lewis and Upshur county flood recovery, with volunteer registration open through September 16 and residents still encouraged to request help.
A field worker reported from Lewis County on August 29 that crews were continuing crawlspace cleanup in Jane Lew and did not want households to assume that asking for assistance would take help away from someone else. The nonprofit's current service information includes emotional and spiritual support, tree and chainsaw work, moving debris to the curb, mud-out and gutting work, and home demolition. Work is offered without charge, subject to access, crew availability and project conditions.
Residents can request assistance by calling or texting 571-358-9242 or emailing [email protected]. The worker's update is a field confirmation of ongoing activity; Christ In Action's official deployment page remains the primary source for scheduling and volunteer registration.
The organization is assigning hands-on crews to work that can include mucking out basements and crawlspaces, removing damaged wall material and insulation, clearing debris, and helping residents make flooded homes safe for later repairs. Its disaster-relief model also includes chaplain care and, as homes become ready, donated furniture and appliances.
Deployment volunteers must be at least 18, in good health and prepared for demanding work in changing weather. Christ In Action provides food and lodging for registered deployment volunteers, while volunteers are responsible for transportation. A full 7 a.m.-5 p.m. day is normally required unless a team makes an arrangement in advance.
Prospective volunteers should use the nonprofit's official Lewis-Upshur deployment page rather than arriving at a work site without an assignment.
