“Bundle Up and Boo” at St. Patrick’s School gym in Weston offered free winter clothing, food and candy to Lewis County families recovering from July’s flooding, WDTV 5 News reported October 31.

Students organize help

Kim Derico, St. Patrick’s Church parish nurse, told WDTV that her West Virginia University nursing students wanted to help after working with school nurses in Lewis County during their pediatric rotation. The students identified coats and food as ways to meet children’s needs.

Community donations supplied more than 900 coats, sweatshirts and other winter items. The event also provided grab-and-go meals for more than 500 people. Ten organizations, civic groups and churches decorated tables and handed out candy.

Recovery continues

WDTV reported that families were still rebuilding after July’s flooding. Anyone interested in donating can contact St. Patrick’s Church, according to the report.
