Bonnie's Bus will bring mobile breast-cancer screening to Jane Lew on Thursday, October 1, giving Lewis County patients a local option for a three-dimensional screening mammogram.
The mobile clinic is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Family Medical Clinic, 134 Industrial Park Road in Jane Lew. Patients should call 304-884-7880 for an appointment or additional information. The announcement does not say that walk-ins will be accepted, and a physician's order is required for the mammogram.
Private insurance, Medicaid or Medicare will be billed when available. Patients who are uninsured or underinsured and meet program criteria can receive help enrolling in the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program to cover the screening cost.
Uninsured West Virginia residents age 40 and older may receive a free screening mammogram on the bus through grant and donor funding, according to WVU Medicine. Patients should confirm eligibility and any paperwork requirements when scheduling rather than waiting until the day of the visit.
Bonnie's Bus is operated by WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals and the WVU Cancer Institute. The statewide mobile program combines mammography with breast-care education and is intended to make screening more accessible in communities without convenient fixed-site services.
The complete schedule and eligibility notes appear in the WVU Medicine announcement. General program information is available from WVU Cancer Institute.
